A quick glimpse of Southern Ridges attractions:
Henderson Waves and Mount Faber.

Henderson Waves @ Southern Ridges - an iconic wavy bridge

As shown in the video above, the Southern Ridges comprise a 10 km chain of green, open spaces spanning the rolling hills of Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park and Kent Ridge Park before ending at West Coast Park. The parks are seamlessly linked by hiking trails and connection bridges.

Along Southern Ridges, the most scenic route is the hiking trails from Marang TrailMount Faber to Alexandra Arch. Look out for the iconic bridge -  Henderson Waves - the highest wavy artistic pedestrian bridge that spans high across Henderson Road, at 70 m above sea level.  To find out how to get to this scenic route, click here:
The route starts at Marang Trail just beside HarbourFront MRT Exit D and ends at Alexandra Arch at Alexandra Road. It takes around 2 hours for a slow leisurely walk.
Admission is free of charge for all the trails and parks in the Southern Ridges

Best time to visit Southern Ridges

To enjoy the nature scenery, the best time for the walk are:
  • early morning around 6am to 10.30am.
  • late afternoon around 5 pm to 8.30 pm.
The above timing might varies a little throughout the years due to the different sunset or sunrise in different months of the year. 

Avoid afternoon such as 1 pm to 4 pm as the weather is very hot.

At late night, it is quite a romantic place where you see many couples and tourists who want to see the night scene.  Popular places at late night are "Henderson Waves" and "Mount Faber Park".


If you wish to see the night scenes, you may begin the walk in the late afternoon e.g. 5pm. Then, at the end of the walk you still can see the night scenes.


Getting Around:

There are sufficient signs to lead you to Henderson Waves. But the route to Alexandra Arch/Hort park is a bit on your own. No worries though as there are lots of regulars around which you can ask along the way.

Opening hours:

Southern Ridges is open 24 hours daily but do take note of the lighting hours at night.

Trails / Parks lighting hours: 

  • Generally, all trails and parks are lit at night till 12 am or later, except "Marang Trail" which is NOT lit.
  • Read the following for details.

Marang Trail is NOT lit at night.

What to bring:

  1. Wear a comfortable walking shoes.  Note that the trail is generally NOT muddy.
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hat, Umbrella
  4. Mobile phone, camera. Remember to charge the batteries.
  5. For afternoon walk, bring sun glasses.
  6. For evening walk, do bring along a torchlight in the event that the street lights are out of order. The route is well lit, quite romantic :)
